Do you have a move to a new home on the horizon? You probably already know the importance of choosing the right removal services. At Southwest Freight & Logistics LTD, we strive to deliver a comprehensive range of moving services to our customers. There’s no move too big or too small, from the local to the international. But as seriously as we take removals, we know that it’s only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to moving house.
Moving house is a chaotic experience. When you’re up to your elbows in boxes, it’s easy for some of the many things that need to be kept in mind to slip through the cracks. So, we thought we’d compile this helpful reminder of things to remember…
Switching your energy supplier
You may have not come across this information previously, but according to Switch-Plan, moving to a new home can mean that you waste a lot of money on expensive energy bills. When you move house, you’re automatically placed on what’s known as a “deemed contract” with the previous occupant’s supplier. You’re put on the supplier’s standard variable tariff, which is often among their most expensive. The sooner you switch to a new supplier, the more money you could save. You may be able to switch to the tariff you had before you moved, but it’s still worth checking with Switch-Plan what the best deals on the market are when you move.
Not everyone is able to move house in a day or two. If you would rather take your time in moving to a new home, you may find that renting a storage unit allows you to take your time, prolonging and properly planning your move. Of course, we have a flexible range of storage options from 35 to 100 square feet to make your move as easy and convenient as possible.
Phone and broadband
We live in an age that’s more interconnected than ever. Ensuring that your new home has an active phone line and fast broadband is a top priority, especially if (like many in the current climate) you are working from home.
Keep in mind that getting a new broadband connection can take up to two weeks. So as soon as you know your moving-in date, it’s a good idea to compare broadband providers and arrange a new connection as close to the day you move in as possible.
Redirecting your post
The last thing you need is for important letters, bills and other correspondence to get lost in the time when you move. Fortunately, Royal Mail has a redirection service that will be much more reliable than simply leaving a forwarding address with the new occupant / landlord.
Combined with choosing the right removals service, the above can ensure that moving house is as simple, seamless and stress-free as possible.
